Rabies Warning (added 11 May 2011):
KXAN is reporting a sharp increase in the number of rabies cases in Central Texas. There have been forty-eight instances of animals (including bats, skunks, and racoons) testing positive for rabies in Williamson County this year so far. KXAN quotes Cheryl Schneider, the director of the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter as follows: "City ordinances and state law require anyone keeping or owning a dog or cat 16 weeks of age or older to have that animal vaccinated against rabies.... Vaccinating your pets may prevent the animal from being euthanized if it comes in contact with a rabid animal." If you encounter an aggressive rabid animal, please call 911.
